About the GSC Power Division Collection
GSC Power-Division builds camshafts and valvetrain for engines that spend real time above 7,000 rpm. The performance cams stocked here are cut from billet rather than reground from stock cores, and GSC backs them with the supporting hardware a high-lift cam actually requires — beehive and single valve springs, titanium retainers, manganese bronze guides, and alloy-specific intake and exhaust valves. That pairing matters: added lift and duration raise spring loads and valve temperatures, and mismatched valvetrain is what turns a power gain into a bent valve.
GSC Camshafts: the S1 / S2 / S3 Duration Ladder
GSC grades its cams by duration so you can match the profile to your turbo and rpm target instead of guessing:
- S1 — 269°/269° (2JZ-GTE). The streetable step. Adds mid-lift area and top-end pull without wrecking idle quality or low-rpm manners — the right pick for a stock-location or modest single turbo on a car that still gets driven.
- S2 — 274°/274° (2JZ-GTE and VR38DETT). The most broadly useful grind: noticeably more area under the curve for a larger single turbo, while staying civil enough for street use.
- S3 — 290°/290° (2JZ-GTE). The high-rpm, big-turbo profile. Intended for builds that make power past the stock rev limit and already have the fuel system, head work, and spring pressure to support it.
Valvetrain: The Parts That Let the Cam Survive
- Valve springs & titanium retainers — beehive and single-spring kits for 2JZ (including 2JZ-GE and VVTi variants, set of 24) and SR20DET. Beehive geometry removes mass at the retainer end, lowering valvetrain inertia and pushing back the rpm where spring surge and valve float begin.
- Intake & exhaust valves — 2JZ-GTE and VR38DETT, in standard and oversize. GSC uses 21-4N stainless on the intake side and 23-8N or Super Alloy on the exhaust side, where sustained heat is the failure mode. Offered in STD head diameters and +1mm oversize, plus a +2mm VR38DETT intake valve for ported heads (requires a seat change).
- Manganese bronze valve guides — 2JZ (set of 12), VR38DETT (set of 12), and SR20DET (set of 8). Bronze pulls heat out of the valve stem far more effectively than cast iron, which is why it is standard practice on boosted, high-duty-cycle builds.
- Viton valve stem seals — 2JZ 6mm and SR20DET sets, for oil control after a head refresh.
Standard vs Oversize Valves: Which to Buy
Standard head diameters are the correct choice for a stock or lightly cleaned-up head — they drop straight in and restore the head to spec. Oversize (+1mm) valves buy flow area, but only pay off alongside matching seat and bowl work; installed in an unported head they gain very little and can actually shroud flow against the chamber wall. If the head is not being ported, buy STD. The +2mm VR38DETT intake valve is explicitly a ported-head part and requires new seats.
